GRADE 5 - REPRODUCTIVE PARTS OF A FLOWER @TEACHERZEL

 

STAMEN-the male fertilizing organ of a flower, typically consisting of a pollen-containing anther and a filament.

ANTHER- the part of a stamen that contains the pollen.

FILAMENT- The thin stalk that supports the anther in the male portion of the flower.

COROLLA- a collection of petals that strongly displays color and encircles the stamen and carpel, the reproductive organs of a flower.

PETALSone of the often brightly colored modified leaves that make up the corolla of a flower.

CALYX- The outermost whorl of the flower

SEPALS- The outer parts of the flower (often green and leaf-like) that enclose a developing bud.

RECEPTACLE- The part of a flower stalk where the parts of the flower are attached.

PEDICLE- a stalk or stem that supports a single flower.

PEDUNCLE- between the uppermost leaves of the stem and the receptacle.

PISTIL- One of the leaflike, seed-bearing structures that constitute the innermost whorl of a flower.

STIGMA- It is the sticky bulb that you see in the center of flowers and is the part where the pollen lands and starts the fertilization process.

STYLE- the name for the stalk of the pistil

OVARY- a part of the female reproductive organ of the flower or gynoecium.

OVULE- the organ that forms the seeds of flowering plants.
